Hi, I’m Finnian. Thank you for viewing my portfolio.

I am very driven. I love to play team sports and to help my team mates to reach higher and to consistently set high goals for myself.

Here is our 8th Grade Graduating Class of 2023.

Academic Pursuits

Our middle school program includes Interdisciplinary Studies where we examine unit themes through project work, ELA/Humanities, Math, Science, STEM and Spanish as well as community service.

PBL (Project-Based Learning) Unit on “Perspective”

A project I worked on which I really enjoyed was based on the “Voice” Unit. Students get to pose specific questions they wish to answer and then present our findings. My peer and I chose to explore “How People’s Moods Change Their Voice.” You can find our presentation below.

Here’s a presentation I made for Spanish class on one of my favorite topics: Baseball!

In Civics, we enjoyed working on this presentation which highlights the objective of The Virginia Plan.

Community Service

We live in one of the most diverse cities in our country which is very inspiring, so I want to do my part to be a good steward and a good role model. My peers and I have cleaned up the neighborhood, spent time playing games with, singing for and reading to the elderly in the local Eldercare Facility, among other great projects like packing lunches or personal care kits for those struggling with homelessness in our community.

I also enjoy volunteering in the Early Childhood classrooms where I can work with the younger students.

Public Speaking

Finnian presents on Benjamin Franklin.

Clubs & Extracurriculars

I’ve been a member of the following clubs and extracurriculars during my school years:

  • HPMS Basketball Team (pictured above)

  • Coach Bob Hurley’s (The Hurley Family Foundation) Basketball Clinics

  • Competitive Golfer

  • Drumming/Percussion

  • Founding Member of School Rock Band “The Cyclones” (pictured below)

  • Variety Show participant for 3 years

  • Actor in internationally broadcast commercials

  • St. Peter’s Prep Higher Achievement Program: I attended a 5-week summer program focused on academic and athletic skills.

Our band: The Cyclones. We opened up for a lot of school events, for example, the Variety Show.

Athletics

I love sports and I think I have learned so much from team sports, like how to support my team members, good sportsmanship and how to work hard and have fun.

Baseball

I have been playing Baseball since I was 5 years old. I started in Jersey City with the Roberto Clemente Little League.

As I progressed, I started to play more competitively all the way up until I reached National Standard, ranked at 89th player in the nation and number 1 player in New Jersey. Baseball is my number one passion and I have set very high standards and goals for myself. I plan to work towards D1 College level and hopefully beyond.

Acting

I come from a long lineage of actors including my Grandfather, Gerald S. O’Loughlin who starred in the TV show “The Rookies”. My Grandmother was a casting Director for the show Alf and my Mom is a well-known actress on both the theater stage as well as the big screen (TV and movies). Since I have always enjoyed going to see my Mom on stage, I wanted to give it a try myself. I was recently cast in an HP commercial. Check it out above.

Writing

I’ve always enjoyed writing in school as a way to express myself creatively. I can remember having a lot of fun in “Writers’ Workshop” back in Kindergarten. I like writing because it gives me the opportunity to explore my interests on a deeper level through the process of writing.

Living in the city

(Before you read this, I do really like NY but it just seems cool to write about, also I really like the suburbs, so no hard feelings)

Part 1

Living in the city sometimes I pity

And really I’m just pretty much getting giddy.

When I walk there’s no room, Sunday night it’s just gloom

Every morning the cars just go, “vroom vroom!”

Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and The Bronx

Sure they’ve definitely been around for yonks.

Just take a bit of a look and you just might see

How annoying these cities can honestly be.

Let’s see

Jimmy Fallon

Tom Cruise

Lady Gaga

Michael Jordan

Yankees

Mets

Knicks

Throw in the Nets

I want to say this to you with much peace

But your burgers have way too much grease.

Part 2

Now I’m living in the burbs

When I’m driving I ain’t hitting curbs

Now I can kick the can

Without getting hit by a guy named Dan.

All the trees, and the bees and my new favourite market named Lees

No barks

No sparks

No old school bullies that were narks

There’s no smoke

No splattered yok

No street sold artichoke

I am so happy

And I got my new Nickname Papi

But I just can’t shake the feeling

That something is missing

I have a suspicion

That it might have to do with our transition

But it couldn’t be

Here I felt free

I can’t shake it

This place just doesn’t fit

I guess living in the city

Is it’s own kind of pretty.

Family and Friends

I love to spend time with my family and friends. I enjoy watching movies and sometimes playing video games with my friends online.
